These both now work for me. Just a minor point. Your alert is correct in directing the user to point to two adjacent atoms. However, the page directions leave out the word adjacent; you get some odd results if the two atoms are not adjacent.

and try these

Those are my best attempts to date. view3.htm uses setTimeout() to run the .script() command; that's the only difference.
does the "rotate x" button work?
I'm sorry, I'm afraid a set up a moving target when I overlayed mscalc.js
this afternoon. This changed the behavior of the original view.htm. I know
better than to do this....
It gets even odder...
When using OS 10.3.8 and Safari 1.2.4,
http://www.stolaf.edu/people/hansonr/jmol/mscalc/view2.htm worked on my
Dual G5, but only the first page, and only when loaded from the url or
refreshed using the browser refresh button. Right now, on my PG G3
(10.2.8, Safari 1.2.4) the fragments aren't changing colors (I thought
they were earlier) but the masses are being highlighted on the left.
I just finished updating the Dual G5 to 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3, and now
Safari crashes whenever I try to access a page with a Jmol applet in
it. Safari also crashes when accessing pages with with the old ChemApp
applet (a CAChe model viewer).
Mozilla (1.7.5 on OS X 10.3.9) works, and Firefox (1.0.1 on OS X 10.3.8) works

Bob, I'm sorry to report that even with a freshly opened Safari there is now a problem. When I click on the first atom. the coordinate row turns red, but a second click has no effect. It works fine in Netscape. Bill

I forgot all about the controlling buttons. But here is another version

Bill, would you please try this one?
This sounds a bit like an issue I once had where the commands from
one page were acting on a completely different page. I remember
pointing that out, but I don't recall any resolution. This iteration
of view.htm tries to adjust for that by assigning a random value to
the applet ID.
