well, there is no point in speculating. Although I still think it was curious
that day I discovered the controls on one page were running the applet on
another page. I can't find that message anymore, but that really was something.
So there certainly could be exactly this sort of issue that someone might have
tried to address in a crude sort of way. But more likely it's an oversight.
