I heartily support the use of Jmol.js for applet-related functionality, 
especially for folks who are not fluent in javascript.

that said, I never grokked the usefulness of the above functions (and other 
related).  it seems to me much simpler to define styles yourself using the CSS 
standards.  also, once you learn how to do it, you can apply it outside of 
Jmol.js.  it is nearly as easy to learn the correct CSS syntax as it is to 
learn how to use the CSS-related functions in Jmol.js.

just my two cents, but I recommend using the styles themselves.  sorry for 
somewhat co-opting the thread.
