what OS are you using? there are many 3rd-party possibilities. SnapZ Pro
(some $ but a free trial) can capture snapshots, or even movies, of your
desktop or specific windows. OS X has built-in screen/window capture,
plus a system utility called Grab, plus a command line util called
screencapture. the latter is pretty scriptable, from what I can tell; the
firs ttwo are somewhat limited in their output and would require some file
conversion steps.
I'm sure Linux must have similar tools for free or cheap, and Windows,
too, if you want to spend some time looking around.
