Hello
I don't know if this is the right mailing list to use for RasMol/
Chime questions. If not please excuse.
Has anyone had a problem with the Chime "loop" command when using
Internet Explorer on a PC?
hi John,
I have not worked in Chime in a while, but I do have fuzzy
recollections of problems with 'loop' commands and IE.
Our local Science Centre has asked me to prepare a display for an
exhibit on the history of the discovery of the DNA structure. I
have made a script with a loop command that works fine on my Mac (A
G4 iMac running Classic mode in 10.3.9 with Netscape Communicator
4.78.
I am at a bit of a loss. I have been experimenting a bit with
jmol but I am not into javascript and for most of what I do Rasmol
and Chime are fine.
several folks have created Chime2Jmol conversion systems (I have, so
has Craig Martin at UMass, and Miguel wrote a perl script that is
included with Jmol). it is not difficult, but somewhat tedious to do
by hand for lots of pages.
I heartily recommend switching to Jmol - if you like Chime, you will
like Jmol. it is both applet and application, and so you will never
have to launch Classic again. spinning 3D molecules look better in
Jmol anyway, and they look even nicer in Aqua. :-)
there are two main issues in the conversion: 1) converting Chime
commands to Jmol, which is generally straightforward; and 2)
converting NC4 javascript to modern javascript, which can be easy or
awful depending on your particular situation. :-)
if you send me your file off-list, I'll be happy to run it through my
converter for you and evaluate any javascript changes that you might
need.
regards,
tim
