Paul, Bob, and Tim-

Thanks for the suggestions and the information. Paul's note
indicates that this is a not going to be a problem in the future. Until
then, I may have to use a browser alert for Opera.

        I like Bob's suggestion of a pseudo-hide/show, so I think I'll keep
working on that. Such a function could have other uses. The exit stage left
trick (Move the object left= -1000) was a good idea, but it did not work in
Opera 8.5. The empty object left the stage in a blink, but the functioning
applet stayed right there in its original position! I tried to "walk" the
entire object off the screen in slow steps. The entire object "walked" to
the edge of the screen, and then the object left the applet behind.

I have yet to seriously try Tim's (Driscoll) exit stage rear (Zindex
shift). I noodled around for a while without success, but I have a feeling
that this approach might work with background matching object masks. One
problem appears to be that Opera and possibly other browsers do not like
stacked applets. Click operations get confused. This is the reason that I
move hidden applets to X10,Y900 when not in use.

Verbose! Sorry, bad habit. Thanks again for getting me on track.
