Eric, this is what I use in Firefox: install the "Web Developer" extension, and this includes --amongmany other things that I am not using-- a button for the toolbar that changes its appearance when there are javascript errors. Not a "can't miss", either: you still have to look there, up the window area. Yet, I think this shows javascript errors, not Jmol script errors.
