FirstGlance in Jmol 0.991 is released (http://firstglance.jmol.org,
http://bioinformatics.org/firstglance) and downloadable.
Yesterday, Frieda Reichsman and I located a bug that caused Safari on Tiger
to crash (window suddenly disappears) when clicking on atoms to identify
them. The crashing seemed to be new, probably related to a recent Apple
java update. Firefox on Tiger did not crash.
We fixed a couple of bugs affecting atom identification, and it crashes no
longer. One of these bugs was javascript that worked in Windows but not in
Safari/Tiger. A word to the wise: in Safari, pickCallback parameter 2 (atom
id) must be forced to become a string:
p2s = "" + p2;
Otherwise it looks like as string, but, for example, p2.indexOf("]")
returns -1 when it should return a value >= 2.
I also added one new feature: non-standard amino acids and nucleotides are
now marked with crosses ("stars" in Jmol command language) by default so
they are more noticeable. The stars can be hidden with controls under More
Views.. -- good examples are 1EVV or 2FSR.
