I am interested in changing the way the atoms appear in Jmol. Right
now our research group uses Ball & Stick (http://www.orc.uni-
linz.ac.at/mueller/ball_and_stick.shtml) to generate all of our
images. The program is Mac only, but the OS X version is forever
stuck in somewhat crippled beta form. When it works, it generates
very nice images in a style which our PI would like us to stick with.

I would like to use Jmol to generate images with a similar appearance
to the images Ball & Stick generates (an example: http://
angrychemist.com/ballandstick.jpg). The atoms and bonds look rather
crude with no shading, but work well in print, and stand up to the
photocopier like a champ.

I have a background in java programming, so theoretically I could
make necessary changes to the code myself, but I was hoping for a bit
of direction from the community about where to start. If you know of
an easy way to do what I need, or have experience or insight to
share, or if someone just wants to point me to some relevant sections
of code, I would very much like to hear from you.

Thank you,
Dan
