Charles and I think we have found a bug in the perspective model.
It is
fixed, but I just wanted to get reaction to the fact that once
fixed the
perspective distortion will be ever so slightly different than in Jmol
10.0. Most people won't notice a thing, but you won't be able to
PERFECTLY overlay a Jmol 11.2 snapshot over a Jmol 10.2/11.0 snapshot.
The effect is on the order of 2-4% in perspective distortion at
different depths of the model. The correction makes the model look not
so intensely distorted and is more linear. The bonus is that we can
then
move the camera to any position -- in any direction -- and watch the
perspective change.
I do NOT plan to introduce this as a bug fix to 11.0 even though I
think
it is a bug. This is because I think 11.0 should not have any visible
changes relative to 10.2.
Reaction?
In my book this difference in perspective is a good tradeoff for the
new capability you describe.
As far as not introducing this change to 11.0, the principle makes
sense to me, but no strong opinion in this instance.
