This will break existing webpages --although they can quite easily be 
fixed--.
The way I see it, the spinnig is a matter of page design more than 
model-specific, according to what is desired for the user's first 
impression (e.g., appreciate the 3D nature of the model even before 
being informed of the interactivity possibilities). Also, not only 
the webpage author, but each user may prefer to have models spinning 
or not and that behaviour to be retained for new models.

I would hence prefer the old way to be maintained. But maybe I'm just 
just used to it for historical reasons. And there may be technical 
reasons for your change in behaviour.

[One of these days I need to write a list of which settings are 
persistent / applet-associated / retained across models and which 
ones are nonpersistent / model-associated, this always raises doubts 
on me]
