Thank you for those who have reported times. The three tests here were:

Jmol 10.0

http://www.stolaf.edu/people/hansonr/jmol/pi/simplejar.htm

Jmol 11.1.29 (doesn't load incrementally)

http://www.stolaf.edu/academics/chemapps/jmol/docs/examples-11/simplejar.htm

Jmol 11.1.30 (not released; loads incrementally)

http://www.stolaf.edu/academics/chemapps/jmol/temp/class/simplejar.htm

For the most part, users report about the same load times, on the order
of 5 to 20 seconds. There was no obvious dramatic effect between 11.1.29
and 11.1.30, which does suprise me. So either this wasn't a valid test
(which is quite possible) or we're just not going to see that big an
effect in general.

People have stated a wish to reduce the load time of Jmol. We are probably
at that limit with Jmol 11.1.30. This version loads components as they are
needed -- readers, isosurface code, orbital calculation code,
protein/nucleic
model shapes, etc.

The initial load size is now 650 K, down from 1300 K, so at least that
SHOULD
show some performance benefit.

I think I put this issue aside for now unless someone has some more
great ideas.
