Sebastian,
        If I understand you correctly, the problem occurs when you are not  
using a web server, but are accessing the files locally using Jmol  
placed on your machine?  I haven't tried running anything that way in  
a long time.  I seem to recall Angel putting together instructions in  
the Wiki for this...I will have to look at it and try to duplicate  
it.  However, I believe the present behavior is the correct  
behavior.  The defaults for JavaVMs are no access for applets in  
browsers to the local directory structure unless they are signed.  Do  
we need to change the Wiki instructions?
