I haven't been following the jmol mailing list for a while (I took a little time off when I retired :-) ) and now I have a seriously strange problem with jmol (or java?). If I draw a structure by loading a file "local4.cif" as usual like:

jmolApplet(600,'load "local4.cif" { 3 3 3 }; etc...

and then I change the contents of my file "local4.cif" and redraw it, the drawing remains the same even though when I "view" the file from the jmol window the new contents are correctly listed i.e. the drawing no longer corresponds with the contents listed by "view" !!!

If I also change the file name from "local4.cif" to "local5.cif", then I do get the new contents drawn correctly.

This reminds me of caching problems with browsers that have plagued me in the past; the only sure solution I found was to use a random new file name every time, but that is a nuisance. Yes I have the latest Firefox 2.0.0.9, the latest jmol 11.3.42 and the latest java update (maybe that is the problem :-) )

Alan.
