Is there any way for javascript to detect when the Jmol console is
opened by the user?

Why do I want this? In my Jmol Tutorial-Authoring Template, I have a
zoom slider. If you slide it, you zoom up or down. If you zoom with
the mouse, the slider follows. The latter is accomplished by doing
"show zoom" every second, and automatically moving the slider when
zoom has changed.

The script-per-second mechanism clutters the console, making it
unusable. So, if a knowledgable user opens the console, I'd like to
detect that and temporarily sacrifice the automatic sliding to follow
mouse zooms.

It would also be nice if I could detect when the console is closed,
but that would be icing on the cake -- not nearly as important as
detecting the console opening.

I'd be happy, for example, if opening the Jmol console from Jmol's
menu messaged "console opened". That would to it.
