This is called polling, and there are numerous reports in Bugzilla that Mozilla can't tolerate repeated polling of the applet. Believe it or not, it totally messes up the typing in the URL line (words end up totally backward.) So that is not a feasible option. Zoom is just one of many types of information that might be of value that way. Reports like this will really slow down processing, though.
