within Jmol scripting:

  var x = getProperty("appletInfo", "htmlName")

within JavaScript:

  var x = jmolEvaluate('getProperty("appletInfo","htmlName")')

Note that the name returned is the UNIQUE name for the applet, with an
extension added by Jmol.js:

jmolApplet0__137621354485254__

Just cut it off at the two underscores to get the document ID for the
web page. The reason for the long number is so that if two pages are
open, no two applets have exactly the same name. Otherwise the
synchronization would not work properly.

You can traverse any of the getProperty results this way. Not terribly
efficient if you have to do it a lot, but not bad for occasional checking.

If nature does not answer first what we want,
it is better to take what answer we get.
