Phil,, I'm pretyy sure this has also happened to me before (with Jmol 
or another signed applet). I do not know what's going on. Maybe you 
get the signed applet with unsigned privileges, that is, it will fail 
e.g. to open files located out of its folder, but will work for 
"normal" operations.
