Hi Phil,
We design for 1024 x 768. Based on our visitors over the past year 21.5% use
this resolution and only 2.3% have 800x600 or below. For those who are
interested the most popular was 1280x800 31%.

We have tried to use variable Jmol applet sizes in pages of variable size but
as you say certain browsers produce unexpected results (letterbox Jmol). It may
be possible to overcome this but the thought of worrying about every OS/browser
upgrade did not appeal.
In the end we settled on the resizable window approach for those who wanted
full screen, whatever that is for each user, and the manually adjusted applet
size 300-400-500 developed by Jonathan Gutow for SAGE.

I hope this is helpful.

All the best

Nick

This is a question for those designing web pages using Jmol. I am in a
revision process of pages written a number of years ago, and learning to
incorporate jmol.js. At the time I wrote those pages, the going
recommendation for page size was 800 x 600. But resolution has increased,
monitor screens have become larger, but laptop screens have become varied sizes
and shapes. So what resolution do you find the most convenient for the
majority of modern users? I know one can use %'s, but that can sometimes not
work in some browsers, or so I have read.

Phil
