set dotdensity or set dotscale might do the trick But to achieve the desired effect, I would advise you to try to display a molecular surface upon your DNA, with a very translucent setting. This is what I usually do for publication quality pictures since I discovered the exact same problem with high resolution pictures. Paul
PS : using the povray file, you can event tweak the translucentFinish() function to give your surface a glassy look by testing for the translucent T variable value.
