Sort of... I've seen display freezes that remind me of these : the applet 
doesn't crash but no further command can be run.
I haven't seen this for a while now and can't figure how to reproduce it.

Sure ! the following page 
http://www.librairiedemolecules.education.fr/outils/scribmol/scrib.html sends 
an inline load command each time you click on the sketcher side to add another 
atom. It has presumably loaded hundreds of inline models in a row

Just in case, you could tried the signed applet... some restrictions have 
recently arisen somewhere between browsers/Java/applets and could have led to 
unexpected behaviors.
