Bob,
1) From Jmol application, use right click menu File/Export VRML 3D model.
2) From AccuTrans 3D (shareware $20.00), use File/Open (New) to open .wrl file
from step 1.
3) From AccuTrans 3D, use File/Save As... (type collada)
On a Mac, the resulting .dae file double click opens in Mac Preview as a
manipulatable 3D model. It also imports into iBook Author.
Alternatively, steps 2 and 3 can be replaced by...
2) From AccuTtrans 3D, use File/batch... to open batch window.
3) From resulting batch window, use Add New File Button to shift-click load a
whole mess of .wrl files. I've done more than 100 at a time.
4) Select Save Collada from drop down menu and click OK. Very fast save of all
files.
The shareware can be tested for 30 days. I don't know how it handles surfaces,
but I could do some testing for you and send the .dae files.
The whole process is pretty painless. If the quality is satisfactory to users,
the AccuTrans 3D batch process makes me think that you don't need to put
Collada translation at the top of your todo list.
