No idea But my server was giving me trouble serving some pdb and mol files. Maybe it's related. I could fix that by renaming to .pdb.txt or .mol.txt (this was with a former version of JSmol, I have not checked lately) The error was in the form of garbage characters in red font inside the JSmol panel
