Jmol is a convenient way of creating files destined for 3D printing. Thus
save as VRML or X3D produces a file which can be uploaded to eg Shapeways
for 3D printing (in colour!). Both ball&stick models and (MO) surfaces can be
successfully produced.

The only issue is the scaling of the 3D object. Thus I uploaded a VRML
orbital surface, to be told it would cost $4.25, because its maximum dimension
was about 2cm. But a ball&stick emerged as ~$900 (because it was so large).

Setting a scaled bounding box, or using eg zoom had no effect on the
resulting 3D printable model size. Programs such as Blender could be used to
scale, but they are just as likely to corrupt the model (in my hands). So much
better perhaps to be able to specify eg the maximum dimension of any VRML or
X3D model at the point of having Jmol create it.

Does anyone know of any existing script command that might achieve this?

Or, since X3D/VRML are just text files, it should be possible to text edit a
scale into them. But it is not entirely obvious where to put this command, and
it would not be so elegant as getting the size right in Jmol itself.

Any help (or experiences with 3D printing) much appreciated.
