Ah, right. You want something automatic. Is that it?

Bad news: There is absolutely no way any more to discover upon page loading
whether Java is installed and not blocked. It just isn't possible. The only
recourse is to explicitly provide links to two versions of your page and
let people choose.

One thing you can do is to decide based on a platform check to just send
images. For that, your page JavaScript could change Info:

  use: "IMAGE"
  src: "xxxx.png"
  script: ""


I think with the 5-30x performance enhancements I expect for that test I
just announced, there should be no reason to do that for iPads. For iPads
you might want in your start-up script:

    set platformSpeed 4

This will allow ball and stick, but compromises on surfaces and cartoons,
translucency, and antialiasing during dragging. (1 would be fully
compromised; 10 would be standard Jmol).
