I'm about to release a major version of Jmol. This one will have securely
signed Java files. Everything is great except for one thing: You can no
longer use these JAR files if they are located on a hard drive. It's some
sort of Oracle Java bug, I think. And of course it makes no sense --
letting a remotely accessed applet run but not a locally-accessed one.
That's ridiculous. But...
If you run Jmol in a local internet-unavailable fashion, you will probably
lose access to Jmol soon. I'm interested in hearing how much of a problem
that is going to be for people.
