Sorry for having bothered you, but it seems like some weird Firefox 
problem caused this. After I have reopened Firefox on Linux the wait 
message is now visible for all commands like on Win7.

(But at least it helped finding the nasty MSIE command multiplier problem.)

After the browser restart the JSmol speed with Firefox 25.0 on Linux is 
unexpectedly now very similar to that with Firefox 25.0 on Win7 on my 
laptop. But on another laptop with a supposedly even more powerful CPU 
the speed with Firefox 25.0 on Win7 is similarly low as with Firefox 22 
on my laptop.
