Hi Angel, Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, all users (including both human users and SYSTEM) are listed as having "Full control" and the user with the problem is the owner (nor does it seem to matter if I change the owner). This is what I get from Java when it freezes: "Java(TM) Platform SE binary isnot responding." This window eventually goes away without saying anything. Java isn't doing anything while the program is frozen (0 CPU usage).
If it were a permission thing, what I find odd is that I never get to navigate to file. Simply clicking the open command is enough to freeze it. So, it is not as if it finds that the particular file I wanted to open is inaccessible. It's just the open command itself somehow is different than Get PDB or Get MOL. I can also write state (e.g., after Get PDB) to a file in the jmol directory, which also seems to argue against permissions. If I watch the Jmol Java console as I use the open command, this is what I get before it freezes: [image: Inline image 1] Is there some way I can get Java to tell me why it's crashing?
