One more comment, and I'll stop.

It is true that a Java program can read the clipboard and place contents
into it without any user knowledge. I think it is fortunate that this is
not possible in HTML5. I think what the discussion about an HTML5 clipboard
object is about is providing some sort of GUI such as a pop-up menu that
allows the user to choose "copy" or "paste" and have the page then be able
to *interpret *that in a meaningful way. "OK, you get my image" "OK, I'll
take your text" -- that sort of thing. I don't think anyone is planning to
give HTML5 objects the capability to load/unload the system clipboard
without some user action.
