Angel, I would agree with you regarding my understanding of the general 
syntax for atom expressions.

But 'select *A' actually does work in Jmol 14.0.5 but not in 14.4.0, e.g.:
--------------------
   load =1deh;
   select *A

14.0.5: 3020 atoms selected
14.4.0: 0 atoms selected
--------------------

Gabriel (and anyone else), if you report a problem you should at least 
provide information about the Jmol version you are using and if it is 
the application, applet or HTML5 variant. And in general it will also 
help to provide some information about your system like Operating 
system, Browser name and Version, Java name and version.
