I'm just puzzled by this.  Why is Java better than Perl for enterprise level
computing?  Perl is the more advanced and flexible language.  If I'm not
mistaken the first webserver was written in Perl in PLEXUS.  Everytime a major
application had been written in Java, I can't wait until someone rewrites it
(see Open Office).

So basically that leaves IDE's, and possible distributed progamming.

My IDE is VIM - regardless of the language, so I probibly wouldn't care.

Many people mix up the easy entry point of Perl for other programmers with
a lack of power.  It's an undeservered knock on Perl.
