Also, what do you think about 40/hr? I am used to getting 75/hr W-2 in NYC.
A job was just posted advertising "up to" ~$22.50/hour in NYC, seeking a contractor that's fluent in Perl. Does $40/hour sound so bad now?
I don't know why I should be swayed by one job offer which may be underpaying...
Frankly, I feel that New York City-area programmers should be paid at least $50/hour, as NYC is a very expensive city to live in. But you have to deal with the economic realities.
That was my original question. I was in Los Angeles for a year and fell out of touch with NYC rates. I was called about a NYC position offering 75-80/hr while in LA, and my last position in NYC (Oct 2002-Dec 2002) paid 33/hr W-2. But this was done to save face for an end-client instead of billing for more talent tacked on at the end of a project.
So by "economic reality" do you mean that the average rate for a mid-career Perl programmer in the most lucrative and plentious job market in the World (the new york tri-state area) has dropped 50-75%?
