Job Announcement: Web Developer

 

RGE is seeking a creative Web Developer with an enthusiasm for coding who will 
help develop and maintain the RGE web presence by writing, updating, and 
maintaining code both during our website redesign and after the website 
re-launch.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate creative and strategic capabilities 
and clear expertise in writing code.  They will also have a history of meeting 
project timeline goals and of producing error-free code.  The successful 
candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced environment and have 
successfully launched a major website.  An understanding of the financial 
information market and/or economics is preferred, but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-       Write, update, and maintain code as advised by management

-          Work both individually and in small teams to deliver on time, 
error-free code that meets all design specifications

-          Respond appropriately to internal and external clients, ensuring 
that all expectations are being met

-          Work with colleagues to maintain standards, develop improvements to 
standards, maintain documentation, and share knowledge

-          Produce reliable, scalable and effective solutions that anticipate 
future growth

 

REQUIREMENTS:

-          4+ years of PHP (PHP5 OOP)

-          4+ years of SQL (MySQL preferred)

-          4+ years working in a LAMP environment

-          Understanding of SDLC methodologies, including Test Driven 
Development

-          Solid HTML,XHTML, CSS and Javascript skills

-          Experience working with structured code libraries, development 
frameworks and modular design

-          Solid understanding of security issues pertaining to web development

-          Experience with Lucene or other Search Engines

-          Experience with scaling in web application development

-          Solid understanding of caching & templating techniques

-          Solid understanding and working knowledge of Subversion

-          Knowledge of creating and parsing XML for many purposes

-          Solid understanding of common design patterns (singleton, factory 
etc)

 

PREFERRED:

-          Background in Economics

-          Experience in commercial information services

-          Fluent with Java and Java Servlets

-          Working knowledge of Apache and Tomcat (or other Servlet container)

-          Other languages such as perl, python as well as SysAdmin skills

-          Experience with SOA / AJAX patterns

-          VIM
