Our client is seeking a Vice President of Software Development to design, build and maintain high transaction database backed web applications along with statistics gathering and reporting. This role is to assure the successful execution of the companys business mission through development and deployment of the companys web presence. This requires envisioning the companys service offerings as a web-based business, leading implementation of web applications, and planning for risk and growth.
Responsibilities Strategy and Planning Maintain, develop, and improve companys software technology platforms. Lead strategic planning to achieve business goals by identifying and prioritizing development initiatives and setting timetables for the evaluation, development, and deployment of all web-based services. Collaborate with the appropriate departments to assess and recommend technologies that support company organizational needs. Operational Management Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices by attending relevant conferences and reading widely. Define and communicate company values and standards for acquiring or developing systems, equipment, or software within the company. Ensure company technical problems are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner. Supervise recruitment, training, retention, and organization of all development staff. Position Requirements 10+ years of professional development experience 10+ years experience managing web application development 6+ years of team leadership and management. Recent experience leading application and software development in PHP technology environments and to a lesser degree, .NET environments. Java is a plus Ability to review and make recommendations to code, having recently performed development tasks. Understanding of Grid / Cloud computing technologies Experience with High Transaction Low Latency application development Experience with reporting systems and processes and must be able to understand optimize complex SQL queries (MySQL / Oracle) Must understand complex statistics and metrics methodologies and presentation. Experience with MVC, Zend Framework a plus. Must understand horizontal scalability and be able to develop around physical configurations such as load balancing and clustering. Strong problem solving skills Ability to discern user requirements and develop specifications. Proven leadership ability. Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences. Exceptionally self-motivated and directed.
