Description:

Digital Democracy (Dd) is seeking an open source web application developer to 
work with local programmers from around the world on building life-saving 
technologies. You will work closely with core staff in scaling up programs that 
empower civic engagement in vulnerable communities. This is an 
opportunity to join an emerging organization at the ground floor. You will have 
the benefit of working directly with members of Dd?s staff and engaging around 
issues including technology, new media, youth 
development, non-profit management, film, education and journalism. 

Experience Requirements 
• 3+ years experience as a standards-based web developer, with strong PHP 
skills. 
• 1+ years of Wordpress and/or Drupal experience (customizing plugins, themes, 
system architecture) 
• Experience with GIS/mapping. 
• Google Map API mashups. 
• Work in teams using Agile methods 
• Work on social applications and/or successful blogs 
• Experience with Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, (LAMP Stack), AJAX, jquery, 
JavaScript, XML, JSON, SQL 
• Experience and/or interest in Google App Engine and/or Amazon Web Services 
• Skillful in both back end and front end development 
• System administrator skills in terms of setting up web and app servers 
• User of many leading social applications; keeping up with the latest cool 
tools

• Passion for human rights and technology for social change 
• You appreciate and/or attend Barcamps 
• Friendly online and offline dealings 
• Enthusiastic user of social media, active on Twitter, Second Life or a blog 
in the subject areas that you care about 
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team 
• High standards of accuracy and attention to detail 
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and perform a wide variety of tasks 
over the course of a week 

Digital Democracy (Dd) works with local partners to put information into the 
hands of people who need it most – those neglected, disenfranchised or abused 
by their rulers. Dd emphasizes 
education, communication and participation to empower citizens to build and 
shape their own communities
