Well I think this is BS (referring to the act of confiscating as they do not have any right) and if this will really be applied in KSA or other places, it won’t be too difficult for us PC Gurus to find neat tricks to work around this scanner or whatever it is.
I called my friend in KSA and he told me that they didn’t search his laptop nor his flash memory. However he did tell me that they do random checks sometimes on external drives or such but it is not a one by one rule of thumb. I guess I am off to finding ways to encrypt my data, not that I have materials to hide, but more of no way on earth I’d let them see what my drives have in terms of data, family images, …etc. From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Yaman Saqqa Sent: Saturday, July 18, 2009 11:37 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [JoLUG-General] Re: Fwd: [fet97ee] Fw: Fwd: TOP URGENT: SAUDI AIRPORT NEW RULES Unfortunately it is true. Our CFO was coming from Dubai and his Media Storage was confiscated. Another colleague from Gemalto came from Paris and his laptop was confiscated from a stupid semi-nude picture that was on his HD.
