Hi Ray,
I understand the misunderstanding. In fact you are using EntityBean with
Bean Managed Persistence. In this case is up to you to optimize your
code
of ejbLoad & ejbStore in order to avoid unnecessary accesses to the
database.
The "isModified" optimization is useful in ContainerManaged Persistence,
in this case the container has no way to know if data has been modified,
and  it can call your bean in a "isModified" method (whose name is given
in the deplyment descriptor) in order to know if it must  call the
storeData() generated procedure.
This code is in container/EntitySynchroImpl.java.
