Entity beans don't sync often enough

I am using JOnAS 2.2.4. Can someone please tell me how long JOnAS takes to syncronize entity beans with the database? In the system I am developing, there is an external process which interfaces directly with the database, and it's not finding the data it needs. If there is a lag of a few seconds, then that would be ok with me, but JOnAS seems to take far longer than a few seconds. I don't know exactly how long, because I got impatient, and ran "JonasAdmin -sync" to get things moving.   Is this a variable I can set somewhere?   Thanks,   Bryan
