After consulting with my DB2 DBA, an even better (i.e. less expensive) check
that should work on any DB2 UDB installation is:

select current date from syscat.tables where tabschema= 'SYSCAT' and tabname =
'TABLES'

Good luck!

I've been using

select count(*) from sysibm.systables

with DB2 version 6

(Pardon my inexperience with databases 8-)
What is a good value for
jdbc.connteststmt
in datasource definition file for DB2 (IBM DB2 UDB 7.1). The default "select
1" doesn't work.
I haven't tested Sybase yet but I ask now in case it doesn't work 8-). How
about Sybase 12 ASE (if I ever get past install, it already crashed on me
twice).

Thanks in advance,

Miro Halas
