This was a push versus pull choice.
Mailing lists (push) provide the advantage that messages go
automatically into your mailbox.
Some people prefer this type of organization, rather that having
to have to go and read a forum or a newsgroup.
Forums or newgroups, on the other hand, have the advantage that they
are not intrusive and don't pollute your mailbox if you don't want them to.
We at ObjectWeb have chosen to have *archived* mailing lists rather than pure forums.
If you don't want to subscribe to the list, you may still read the archives (and even
post messages).
