Following several questions, please find below the ObjectWeb position related to licensing.
ObjectWeb projects are currently delivered with two different licences depending on the project: -LGPL (for Jonathan and RmiJdbc); -OPL (for JOnAS and JORAM); OPL (Open Public License) is a licence derived from the MPL (Mozilla Public Licence). As the LGPL is now a well-known and widely accepted licence which allows all potential industrial uses of the related middleware, we would like to use LGPL for all new projects and to move to LGPL for all existing ObjectWeb projects. JOnAS (which implements EJB, JTA and JCA specifications) and JORAM (which implements JMS) are also submitted to Sun Licensing conditions in two areas: - Copyright related to the specifications which are implemented (EJB, JMS, JCA, JTA); - Sun binary license related to the binary API which are embedded (JCA, JTA, JTS, JMS, JAAS, EJB, JNDI and JDBC). For the implementation of the specifications, both JOnAS and JORAM are full clean-room implementations which do not contain any single line of Sun source code. The right to distribute such implementations is explicetely mentionned within the Limitation of Liability Clause of the Sun Copyright notice. For the distribution of binary API the Sun binary license explicitely allows redistribution. JOnAS version 2.4 also now embeds the JMX reference implementation which is free for use and redistribution. JOnAS and JORAM fully implement the related specifications, but do not claim to be certified or even compliant. JOnAS full EJB 2.0 support is expected within the six month deadline required by Sun Copyright notice. The ObjectWeb position is that JOnAS and JORAM can be used for operational applications and embedded in commercial products. If some product embedding JOnAS wants the J2EE label, this implies for the corresponding company to enter negociations with Sun. - Grard Vandme INRIA Rhne-Alpes - SIRAC Project - ObjectWeb Initiative [EMAIL PROTECTED] phone: +33 4 76 61 54 87 http://www.inrialpes.fr http://www.objectweb.org ---- To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and include in the body of the message "unsubscribe jonas-users".
