I'm going to guess that the same thing goes on here in
Canada, because most of the radio stations you listen
to could be anywhere in Canada or the USA.

And I know that the station my kids listen to (the one
that plays the kid-pop/dance music sort of thing)
supposedly takes *requests* but my daughter's friend
called to request something and they TOLD her what to
request - in return for this, the kid gets to announce
the song and the station's call letters, so the kids
will do this just to get on the radio.  Once the kid
made a request (can't remember who it was, but if you
said Back Street Boys or 'NSync, it would be a good
guess) - then the DJ asked the kid if she liked the
group, and she said No!
