A similar thing happened to me a while ago when I made a clay chess set for
a female friend. I proudly showed her the finished (but unglazed) pieces
which I had fashioned in what I thought was a comical militaristic style
only to have her say, "But, umm, why do all the pawns look like little
penises?"
Sure enough, their little helmets and tubular bodies made them the exact
image of marching penises, a connection I had been totally unaware of.
Needless to say I could only see them as penises from that moment on.
They never got finished.
