I still haven't been able to assimilate everything that's happened in the last two days. I still feel pretty numbed by it all. It's a real mixture of emotions. Happiness that our list members are safe, sadness for those who have lost friends and family, and hope that some may still be alive beneath the rubble (and selfish relief that I'm home safe and sound). Yesterday I posted that many people here feel quite distant from world events like this. A phone call last night immediately changed that. I had calls all day from friends and family, checking that I'd made it home safely, but the last call was from my brother here in Auckland. We chatted for a while, and I said that thankfully, it seems everyone I know is safe. He then told me he has two or three close friends who worked in the WTC, and who are most likely missing. It seems we're not so far removed as I thought. The world seems much, much smaller today.....
