I've had quite a few in my lifetime (no Methuselah jokes, Muller) but one that had a profound effect on me was meeting Pete Seeger. I was about 19, very active in social causes and very anti war, and he was a big hero of mine. He came to Buffalo and as was his way, sang for practically free at a local high school auditorium with no fanfare or entourage. I was so in awe of his talent and charisma. He came out afterwards to meet us. I stood in line and had nothing for him to sign, so he signed my hand with a marker. It was there for days. 30 years later, he at 82 years of age and in poor health, showed up to perform for the Museum of American Folk Music benefit in NYC. I was there to see Judy Collins and was so surprised to see him perform. It had a great emotional impact on me that he cared so much to be there.
