my favorite children's books:

>From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankwiler by
E.L. Konigsburg

Dominic by William Steig

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit

Alice and Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by
Lewis Carroll

and everything Daniel Pinkwater has written,
especially Alan Mendholsson, the Boy From Mars and
Young Adult Novel.

I worked in a children's bookstore for a while in the
late '80's, so I've read LOTS of children's
literature.

>From the Mixed Up Files... i read for the first time
in the third grade, and I credit it with giving me a
love of literature.

The rest of my list (except for the Alice books) I
didn't discover until I was an adult.

I don't really consider the Alice books children's
lit, at least not anymore. Adults get so much more
out of them than kids do.

Anyone who loves silly fun needs to read Daniel
Pinkwater. I forced his books on my sister, she gave
me the Douglas Adams' Hitchiker' s guide books in
return. They're both full of the same type of silly,
punning humor. Good stuff!
