Yes, they are great! Here in the US, though, the first book is known as "the golden compass". Why do they change titles from UK to US? I know for the first Harry Potter, it was because no one in the US would understand what "philosopher's stone" meant (except for my smart husband, who knows a lot about many things and explained it to me :) In the US we'd be saying 'philosopher? as in Plato?' yes, we are philistines here. so they had to change it to 'sorcerer's stone'. Why they changed 'northern lights' though, I have no idea. I've read the first two of the trilogy and also have the third, but I haven't read it yet. I'm a little afraid of reading a 'battle' book these days. Even if it is just fantasy.
