Colin asks:

"However, would children really be able to sit thru almost 2 and a
half hours for this?"

To answer your question, it probably depends on the age of the children. My
daughter just turned 12, and she has read all the books and has been looking
forward to the movie since she first heard it was being made - much like her
mother I might add. I took her to see it last weekend, and the length was
not a problem at all. In fact, she went back to see it the very next day
with one of her friends.

I can see that a much younger child, say 7 or 8, would get restless during
such a long film. But then, I suspect children that young are not as avid
fans of the books either. I don't think any of the books are less than 300
pages long, and that takes a bit of an attention span.

I agree with you that the film is wonderful. It looks just as I imagined
it, and the cast is absolutely perfect. Alan Rickman IS Snape, and Richard
Harris was born to play Dumbledore. I thought the kids were great, and the
one who plays Ron is indeed a real standout. The little girl is a living
doll, and I predict great things for her future - she was a bit stiff, but
then so is Hermione.

One thing that has puzzled me that I haven't seen explained completely is
why the name change from the U.K. to the States? Does the word philosopher
have some different connotation to the British that Americans just wouldn't
get? I know there are enough British listmembers that surely someone can
explain it to me.
