Tim Sprong asks: But what is the significance of spelling "boy" as "boi"? This inquiring mind wants to know.
Here's bit from a letter from this week's "Savage Love" (the sex-advice column written by Dan Savage. The writer was complaining about guys who grope others in gay sex clubs. "I'm a very good looking gay boi. What makes them think they get to cop a feel? Isn't this male-on-male rape?" This pretty much defines 'boi', I think. I've recently started seeing it from time to time, especially when used to describe young gay guys who are hot and know it (we used to call them twinks). I get the idea that it's used more by these guys when they refer to themselves, not when others refer to them. FYI, Dan Savage's reply to this letter is that groping in a sex club isn't rape. What do people go to sex clubs for, anyways? His advice: don't like groping, stay out of sex clubs.
