hello joniphiles ! i'm so enjoying reading the posts on the site. i have
noticed there are quite a few new joni listeners out there. for all you
novices i would like to say that you should start from the begining with her
debut, " songs to a seagull, " and work your way through an incredible 21
album career. ( that includes 2 live albums and " hits " and " misses " )
knowing how long this might take let me suggest what i consider to be 4 must
have masterpieces. ( believe me these were hard to choose ! ) those being: "
blue," "court and spark," "hejira," and " turbulent indigo." these would be
a good start. i think they represent a cross section of her musical
progress, a best of her experimentation if you will. eventually you must
acquire the entire catalog.
( fortunately i was able to this gradually as each album was released.) let
me say i have never heard a joni that i didn't like, if pressed i will
reluctanly admit that some have more merit than others, hence the 4 must have
masterpieces. if anybody cares to hear my secondary or even tertiary choices
i would be glad to oblige. ( i'm an endless font of opinions and ideas ! )
glad to be on board...regards, warren keith
p.s. i'm the proud owner of a
tape of the BBC " james and joni lovefest " mentioned on the site . it is a
cassette recording of an 8-track recording that i made in the early
seventies from a radio broadcast. WHEW... not a pristine recording but well
worth a listen. if any body is interested let me know the easiest way to
exchange it. ( a friend told me he had seen an LP of this, does anyone know
anything about this ? )
